Half of Britons feel regret
A recent study commissioned by the financial technology company Kalixa, revealed that half of Britons’ are so unhappy at work that they believe their career choice was a mistake. Those in the legal profession are said to be the unhappiest. The study found that 49 per cent are considering changing jobs, 28 per cent want to try something different and 24 per cent would describe themselves as ‘poor’ employees. The study of 2,000 workers suggests that many would rather run a café or bed and breakfast. Other popular choices for people seeking a change were being a novelist or bar owner.
The unhappiest industry after legal profession was manufacturing with 37 per cent not enjoying work, followed by hospitality at 36 per cent. 47 per cent of people survey said that they felt they had gone as far as they could in their profession. 43 per cent of people aged 35 to 44 felt they had already hit a career ceiling. 20 per cent of the people surveyed described their job as "meaningless" and too stressful, with another 15 per cent felt their hours were too long.
Kalixa, which sponsors the Spirit of Small Business awards, found 70 per cent of people would consider working for themselves.
